For the week ending December 19, 2025

What a wonderful Advent/Christmas season that we are in the middle of, at Priest Lake Presbyterian Church! Last Sunday, we were privileged to have the Nashville Choral Project lead us in worship with their stunning musical artistry and reverent presence. Thank you for your generous financial gifts to support their excellent program. Following worship, we were blessed by a generous and delicious Christmas dinner, prepared by Bobby Binns and his kitchen crew, along with sumptuous sides and desserts prepared by our diners. The fellowship around the tables was also a treat for everyone who attended.

On Saturday, December 20, at 5 p.m., we will be entertained, inspired, and enchanted by our children and youth as they present The Backward Christmas Pageant. A big thank you to our performers, teachers, and parents for all the time, energy, talent, and love that we will all get to enjoy on Saturday!

Singers and carolers, don’t forget that we will be Christmas Caroling to our homebound members on Sunday, December 21, meeting at the church at 3 p.m. to organize carpools. The light of Christmas will be emanating from PLPC, on this winter solstice, as our carolers visit and bless our eager members at their homes.

And don’t forget Sunday worship, 10:30 a.m., on December 21, as we light the fourth Advent candle (Love) and ponder the power of God’s presence – Immanuel: God with us.

Our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service (with communion) will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24. Please invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join us for this meaningful, dramatic, and touching worship service. We are very blessed, throughout every season, at PLPC and our daily prayer is that others may also be blessed by God through us.

May the light of Jesus beam brightly!

Stay Safe this Winter

by Dave Nock

The key to being safe is being prepared. Here are a few winter tips.

Stay Safe When Heating Your Home
Although trending downward since the early 1980s, heating fires remained the second leading cause of home fires in 2021. An estimated 32,200 home heating fires were reported to fire departments within the United States. These fires caused an estimated 190 deaths, 625 injuries and $442 million in property loss. Follow these tips to help protect yourself and your loved ones against home fires.
6 TIPS to Prevent House Heating Fires
1. Keep anything that can burn at least three feet from all heat sources including fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, portable heaters or candles.
2. Maintain heating equipment and chimneys by having them cleaned and inspected each year by a professional.
3. When using your fireplace, always keep a metal or heat-tempered screen around it to stay safe.
4. Always use a generator, camp stove, charcoal grill, gasoline or propane heater outdoors and not near windows.
5. Always plug space heaters directly into an outlet, and make sure its cord isn’t damaged or frayed.
6. Avoid using the stovetop or oven to heat your home. It is dangerous because it increases the risk of burns, fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

If you have a real Christmas tree PLEASE remember to water it. Dry trees are a fire hazard.

Prepare for Power Outages
Winter storms may bring power outages that can disrupt things like communications, utilities, transportation, stores, gas stations and ATMs, and prevent your ability to use electrically powered medical devices. Follow these tips to stay #WinterReady.
6 TIPS to Prepare for Power Outages
1. Keep freezers and refrigerators closed. Throw away any food that has been exposed to temperatures 40 degrees or higher for two hours or more, or that has an unusual odor, color or texture.
2. If you use a generator, ONLY use it outdoors and away from windows.
3. Do not use a gas stove or oven to heat your home.
4. Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.
5. Have alternate plans for refrigerating medicines or using power-dependent medical devices
The Bible emphasizes preparedness as both a spiritual discipline and a practical wisdom: being alert, prayerful, and ready for trials. Preparedness is ongoing: not a one-time act, but a lifestyle of watchfulness, prayer, and wise stewardship. Proverbs 21:5 — “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”

Join us on Sunday, December 21 at 3:00 PM as we spread Christmas cheer to our homebound members.
We’ll meet at the church at 3:00 PM and then carpool to our destinations to share the joy of the season through carols and fellowship.
When we return to the church, we’ll enjoy hot cocoa and cookies together.
If you would like to put a special person on the list for caroling, please let Amy Aviles (Amositah@yahoo.com) know.
Come dressed in your festive holiday attire, bring your jingle bells and Santa hats—and let’s have a jolly good time while spreading holiday cheer!
This is a wonderful way to bring joy to those who might not be able to worship with us in person.
All ages are welcome—make this a meaningful part of your Christmas celebration!

We all have sweet memories of our past Christmas tradition of writing Christmas cards to each other and dropping them into a basket.  In today's world of Facebook, Subsplash, texting, and email, the Session made the decision to end the traditional Christmas Post Office.  It's still important to reach out to our friends that we don't see on a regular basis so if you need an address or phone number, please call or email the office.

It’s one thing to demonstrate what one knows about Jesus. It is quite another to discover who one is in relation to that Jesus every day. That matter requires regular, daily examination over a lifetime of exploration. It can even expand and change over time.
