For the week ending October 10, 2025

Last Sunday, following worship, the congregation elected Jeff Binns, Lisa Blaustone, Chelsea Glaspie, Jon Loudermilk, and Tom Tozer to serve on the Pastor Nominating Committee. We thank each of them for their willingness to serve on this important committee and we will be keeping them, and the person who God is preparing to call as the next installed pastor of Priest Lake Presbyterian Church, in our prayers. Our church’s liaison from the presbytery’s Commission on Ministry, Mickey Stueck, will be training the PNC as well as offering support and encouragement along the way. God is good – all the time!
Stewardship Season is Coming
Our 2026 Stewardship program – Living Generously – will begin on Sunday, October 12 and will conclude with the dedication of our 2026 pledges on Sunday, October 26. Stewardship packets will be available, beginning on October 12, and we will have the opportunity to hear from current session members about how your contributions of time and talent can help support the ministries and missions of PLPC. We look forward to celebrating the abundant blessings which God has provided in our lives and in the life of our church. Your generosity, of time, talent, and treasure, help make this church the active, caring, welcoming, mission-focused church that it is. Thank you, and thank you for the hope and anticipation we share for what the Lord may bring us in the new year.

The Blessing Box needs your support.
"Food for Thought Sunday" is this and every second Sunday.
If you're able, please bring a non-perishable food item to keep it replenished.

We will honor

Biblical Roots
The idea of honoring spiritual leaders dates back to the Apostle Paul. In his letters to early Christian churches, Paul encouraged believers to give “double honor” to those who preach and teach (1 Timothy 5:17) and to hold them “in the highest regard in love because of their work” (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13).

October is
Pastor Appreciation month

Purpose
The month is meant to:
Affirm the spiritual and emotional labor pastors carry.
Counter burnout and isolation.
Strengthen the bond between pastors and their congregations.
Encourage ongoing support and gratitude throughout the year.

We will honor
Pastor Ray

After Worship Service

Modern Origins
The formal observance began in 1992, when the Christian organization Focus on the Family launched Clergy Appreciation Month to encourage congregations to recognize and support their pastors. They designated October as the month for this celebration and suggested the second Sunday of October as Pastor Appreciation Day.

SECURITY

by Dave Nock

As we have mentioned in past discussions – we are working on emergency planning and security for the church, the congregation and security topics. As we have seen, security for religious facilities has been a concern for a number of years. We do not want Priest Lake to be among the statistics.

There are six steps that can help protect places of worship against potential threats of targeted violence in a cost-effective manner that maintains an open and welcoming environment.
Priest Lake is known for its welcoming congregation, and we do not wish that to change. To ensure that this continues we have to plan and implement measures that will help that desire to continue.
The six steps are:
1. Understand the risk – We are going to be working with Law Enforcement to have a better understanding of the PLPC risk and we will be conducting a self-assessment.
2. Understand your space – The team is reviewing the current plan for updates and improvements.
3. Develop and practice a plan – While we have a plan, we need to update it and then practice.
4. Inform and educate greeters –We have unofficial greeters; we need to make this a more formal process and conduct training.
5. Pursue grants –This will be more effective if done through the presbytery. I plan to help with that.
6. Report hate crimes and other incidents – bottom line – If you see something – say something.

What are we doing? One of the aspects of understanding risk is situational awareness. To that end we are discussing adding security cameras around the PLPC campus. We have some, but it needs to be improved. In the coming weeks you will see more cameras. This will help address the risk and help us have a better understanding of the PLPC space.

The Bible addresses security in profound and multifaceted way. It spans physical protection, emotional peace, and spiritual assurance. The Psalms frequently portray God as a refuge and fortress. Psalm 91 opens with, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty”. Paul urges believers to “put on the full armor of God” (Ephesians 6:10–18), emphasizing spiritual vigilance and divine strength.

Well friends, it’s that time again—the last Sunday in October, when we gather at the site of the old log cabin for our annual bonfire. Come about an hour before sunset, and you’ll find the fire pit glowing, hot dogs roasting, and s’mores ready to be toasted. It’s a family-friendly evening filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of fellowship that warms the heart as much as the fire warms your hands. Bring a chair, bring a friend, and let’s make some memories together.
