For the week ending March 13, 2026

I look forward to being in worship with all y’all – those who will be present in the sanctuary and those who stream our service online - on Sunday. I’ll be preaching from John 9:1-7 (Jesus heals a man who had been born blind, setting off a chain of upheaval and disgruntlement among the locals) and 1 Samuel 16:1-13 (God sends the prophet Samuel to the home of Jesse, in Bethlehem, because God has found the next king of Israel). Like so many stories in the Bible, these two texts elevate off-the-radar encounters with common folk and stir our imaginations to wonder whether we also might experience such life-changing holy encounters. When we receive healing or are able to see things more clearly. When our path crosses with someone about to offer a word from God. When we come to realize we’ve been called by God to make another person’s day brighter or ease another person’s burden. Jesus stopped to see, and heal, a blind man. God called a young shepherd boy to be king. You are a beloved child of God. This is the day that the Lord has made!

It's starting to bud!

The Lenten Tree of Life: A journey toward renewal

As we enter the season of Lent, the bulletin board outside the church office features “The Lenten Tree of Life” — a bare, brown tree. The tree symbolizes a quiet transformation that begins long before we can see it. Throughout Lent, we will watch this tree slowly “come to life,” reminding us that God works within us in the same way: gently, patiently, and often before we even notice. We invite you to pause, reflect, and visit the board each week as we journey together toward Easter.

There are two ways to participate in the "growing" of the tree.

"Laying Down our burdens" - THE STONES

During these early weeks of Lent, you are invited to lay down what weighs on your heart.
Take a stone and, in a word or short phrase, write:
  • Something you are letting go of
  • A burden you are releasing to God
  • A habit, worry, or heaviness you are giving up for Lent
When you are ready, gently place your stone at the base of the Tree of Life.
Let this be a simple act of surrender — a symbol of trusting God to carry what we cannot.

"Lord, Grow Something New in Me" - THE TAGS

As Lent unfolds, God begins planting new life within us. You are invited to take a tag and write:
  • A practice you hope to take on
  • A gift you pray God will grow in you
  • A hope, intention, or prayer for new spiritual life
Hang your tag on the branches of the Tree of Life as a sign of growth, renewal, and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

from Dave Nock

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision that something else is more important.”
It’s concise, but it opens up a whole world of meaning: priorities, purpose, responsibility, and the kind of steady resolve you model when you think about family, community, and resilience.

Take 5 Serves up Fellowship & Food

The Take 5 Sunday School class organized a breakfast burrito delivery event on Saturday, March 7th. Eight members of the class came together early in the morning to prepare breakfast burritos. We worked together in the church kitchen, to cook and assemble around 60 breakfast burritos.
Once the burritos were prepared, the group divided into smaller teams to ensure that the distribution reached those in need. They brought the burritos along with bottles of water to the Antioch area and around the Nashville Rescue Mission, with the aim of reaching individuals experiencing homelessness or food insecurity. The recipients greeted the volunteers with gratitude, and the burritos seemed to bring a bright spot of warmth and comfort to each person. Throughout the event, the group enjoyed meaningful fellowship, engaging in friendly conversations all while making a direct positive impact on their neighbors.

Questions Jesus Asked by Magrey Devega
Chapter 5
Pages 91 - 109
Whom will you love?
If you love those who love you, why should you be commended? Luke 6:32

All ladies are welcome to join us at any time. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
The side door by the ramp is unlocked by 5:15. There is always some chit chat and hugs as people arrive and by 5:30 we settle in with our prayer requests. We keep these prayer requests confidential, and we don’t discuss them with our friends or family. I write a summary of the requests and share them in an email only to the people who were in that room at that time. A written summary is intended to help us remember our stepsisters in our daily prayers.
By 6:00 we turn our attention to the book that we’re reading. It’s a time to share our insights, questions, things we like, and things we might disagree with. You are welcome to come even if you haven’t read the current chapter of the book.
At 6:45 we close with a group prayer, lifting up the prayer requests shared at the beginning.

“Even Percy paused to reflect on the beauty and grace of this gift.”

A Gift of Beauty and Grace

This week, PLPC was blessed with two stunning works of art — gifts that now grace our church with beauty and meaning.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Natalie Inman's mother,  Sharon Spivey, who lovingly painted the image of Jesus and His sheep, now hanging in our conference room. Sharon also gifted us a second painting, “The Woman Touching Jesus’s Hem,” created by Jon Houglum, which now adorns our narthex.
Both oil-on-canvas pieces speak deeply to our faith and the glory of Christ. We are grateful for these generous offerings and the spirit of devotion they bring to our shared space.
