For the week ending September 26, 2025

Having received permission from the presbytery, through its Commission on Ministry, to take this important step, the session has called for a meeting of the congregation on Sunday, October 5, following worship, to elect members to serve on the Pastor Nominating Committee. The meeting will be held in the sanctuary. The congregational Nominating Committee, composed of Amy Aviles, Bobby Binns, Ann Dwyer, Chris Highland, and Jodie Kloke, will be bringing the names of active members for the congregation to elect. The members of the Pastor Nominating Committee are intended to represent the whole church as the work and pray together, seeking the next pastor for Priest Lake Presbyterian Church. I invite you to join me in praying for the members of congregational Nominating Committee as they reach out to possible nominees to serve on the PNC and for the Holy Spirit to bring wisdom, grace, and discernment to those who are contacted. We give our thanks to the Lord as we move purposefully and faithfully through this season of transition.

It's gonna be live Monday! Will you check it out?

One Great Hour

by Dave Nock

On several occasions over the years, we have discussed the “One Great Hour” of sharing. The Presbyterian Disaster Organization is well known nationally and internationally by the emergency management community. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (USA) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crises and catastrophic events. In accomplishing this mission, PDA provides training and support in disaster preparedness and response to the congregations, middle governing bodies, and interfaith partners. Members of the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Team are available to assist churches and middle governing bodies in both short and long-term recovery efforts. In addition, emergency assistance grants are available to help meet immediate needs and set up long-term disaster response. PDA is part of the Worldwide Ministries Division of the PCUSA and receives its primary funding from the One Great Hour of Sharing offering.

SO, WHAT TO DO IMMEDIATELY AFTER A DISASTER

CONGREGATION
  • Immediate Safety First - Check for injuries: Administer first aid and seek medical help if needed.
  • Work a phone tree. Check on each other.
  • Avoid hazards: Watch for downed power lines, gas leaks, and unstable structures.
  • Stay informed: Use a battery-powered radio or phone to get updates from local authorities.
  • Secure Your Environment. Don’t re-enter buildings until officials say it’s safe. Use flashlights (not candles) (NOT CANDLES) to avoid igniting gas leaks.
  • Keep roads clear: Avoid driving unless absolutely necessary to allow emergency vehicles through.
  • Use phones sparingly: Only for life-threatening emergencies or to contact your out-of-town emergency contact. Have an out-of-town contact.
  • Begin Documentation - Take photos of damage before cleaning up. - File insurance claims as soon as possible. - Save receipts for repairs and temporary housing.
  • Care for Yourself and Others. Stay calm and pace yourself: Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Support others: You may need to take charge or comfort those around you. Watch for recurring hazards: Aftershocks, flash floods, or additional storms may follow.
PASTOR
  • Stay where you are until danger passes.
  • Assess your own damage, and attend to family, loved ones and yourself first.
  • When it is safe, assess the general situation and the physical needs of the people in your congregation and community.
