†CALL TO WORSHIP:
One: The Lord has been good to us. God’s grace has met us where we are and carried us though challenging times.
All: The Lord has been faithful to us. Through times of sadness and times of uncertainty, God’s love has never abandoned us.
One: It is a joy to be together in worship and lift our voices in praise to God.
All: We celebrate the wonders of God’s presence in our lives and we join together to give thanks to the Lord.
†OPENING HYMN: Blue # 559 “We Gather Together”
CALL TO CONFESSION:
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Lord God, we take so many of your blessings in stride, without a thought about your generous love. Our lives are rich with friends, family and this church. Our days are filled with purpose, meaningful work, and encounters with unexpected goodness. For all that you provide for us, Lord, our expressions of gratitude to you fall short; way short. Forgive us for taking your faithful love for granted. Forgive us for not recognizing your active hand in all the things that bring our lives connection, meaning, and joy. Above all, we are thankful for the forgiveness and new life we receive through faith in Jesus Christ. Hear us now as we confess our sins in silence.
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION: In Jesus’ name, Amen
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS:
†PASSING OF THE PEACE:
†CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: Blue# 579 “Gloria Patri”
TIME FOR ALL GOD’S CHILDREN:
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:
Silence our distractions. Calm our worries and quiet our fears. Speak the words you’ve prepared for us today, as we listen to the scriptures, the sermon and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
SCRIPTURE READINGS: Luke 17: 11-19 Psalm 138
One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
MESSAGE: “Faithful Love: For Now and Forever” Rev. Ray Thomas
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: (from the PCUSA A Brief Statement of Faith)
We trust in the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of live and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the Church. In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in live or death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
