Rev. Ray Thomas
Maureen Meyer, Liturgist

†CALL TO WORSHIP:
One: The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
All: Day to day pours forth, and night to night declares knowledge.
One: There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard;
All: Yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.
†OPENING HYMN: Blue # 276 “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”
CALL TO CONFESSION:
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Lord God, you call us to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick and visit those in prison. There is so much need in our world, and in the communities around us. We strive to do our part, but we question whether we are doing enough. Are we being faithful in obeying your call? Forgive us for being callous to the needs of others and overly focused on ourselves. Forgive us, also, for discounting and undervaluing the good we are contributing to those around us. May we trust your light to shine through our love, your healing to flow through our care for our neighbors, and your Spirit to guide our gifts and our attention to those most in need. Hear us now as we silently confess our sins.
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION: In Jesus’ name, Amen
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS:
†PASSING OF THE PEACE:
†CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: Blue# 579 “Gloria Patri”
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:
Speak to us, Lord; we are listening. Call us into living by faith in Jesus Christ; we believe in our Savior. Calm our fears and rekindle our courage; we are here to serve you. Amen.
SCRIPTURE READINGS: Psalm 131 Romans 8: 26-30
One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
MESSAGE: “For Good, Forever” Rev. Ray Thomas
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: (from the PCUSA A Brief Statement of Faith)
In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human and fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcast, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffered the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.
