Rev. Ray Thomas
Chris Highland, Liturgist

†CALL TO WORSHIP: Chris Highland
One: God calls us here, from east and west, from north and south.
All: Pathways have been opened for us to be here, in worship, in the presence of our Lord.
One: From rest and recovery, from loss and sorrow, from comfort and complacency, we prepare our hearts to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
All: Thankful to be here, joyful to be in worship, preparing to receive God’s word, we lift our voices in praise.
†OPENING HYMN: Blue # 487 “When Morning Gilds the Skies ”
CALL TO CONFESSION:
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Lord our God, you see us as we truly are, as well as who we can become as your faithful disciples. Help us each to close the gap, and live more gracious and compassionate lives. We so easily delay, we so readily become distracted, and we so mindlessly stick to old ways which lead us astray. Awaken us to your wonders. Reveal, into our imaginations, our capacity to follow you more boldly, to love you and our neighbors more generously, and to receive the new life you offer more humbly. Hear us now as we confess our sins silently...
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION: In Jesus’ name, Amen
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS:
†PASSING OF THE PEACE:
†CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: Blue# 579 “Gloria Patri”
TIME FOR ALL GOD’S CHILDREN:
A MOMENT FOR STEWARDSHIP
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:
Enliven us, O God, through your enduring truth and your amazing grace. Awaken our courage and summon our full conviction to live by the clarity you galvanize in our hearts today. Amen.
SCRIPTURE READINGS: 1 Kings 17: 8-16 Acts 3: 1-10
One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
MESSAGE: “But, What Else Happened?” Rev. Ray Thomas
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: Philippians 2: 4-11
Let each of you look not to your own interest, but also to the interest of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross. Therefore God also exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
