†CALL TO WORSHIP:
One: God invites us into a new place, on this new day.
All: God provides grace that overflows, forgiveness that cleanses us from sin, and new life through trust in Jesus Christ.
One: God calls us into new opportunities to practice our faith, new experiences to learn the power of love, and new challenges to grow as disciples.
All: We come together, in gratitude, with love for God and for one another, and in anticipation of God’s holy presence filling us with life anew.
†OPENING HYMN: Blue # 527 “Near to the Heart of God”
CALL TO CONFESSION:
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Lord our God, you provide blessings, each day, which we take for granted, as well as answers to prayers which we look right past. You generously offer us gifts, opportunities, and relationships that matter while we choose to give our attention elsewhere. We’ve blamed you, and we’ve blamed others, for faults that land squarely on our own shoulders. Forgive us and equip us with the faith and courage which open a clear pathway into repentance and wholeness. May we walk humbly, in step with you, along the way that brings joy, hope, love, and peace to us, to our church, and through us, into the world. Hear us now as we pray our personal confessions…
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION: In Jesus’ name, Amen
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS:
†PASSING OF THE PEACE:
†CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: Blue# 579 “Gloria Patri”
TIME FOR ALL GOD’S CHILDREN:
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:
Lord God, open our ears to your words, open our hearts to your transforming love, and open our imaginations to new possibilities for abundant life in Jesus. Amen.
SCRIPTURE READINGS: Luke 7 :18-23, Philippians 1: 3-11
One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
MESSAGE: "Keeping This Good Work Going”
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: (from the PCUSA A Brief Statement of Faith)
We trust in the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the Church. In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
