Message: Rev. Ray Thomas
Liturgist: Jeff Binns

†CALL TO WORSHIP: (Lamentations 3: 22-25)
One: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end.
All: They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
One: “The Lord is my portion, “says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
All: The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.
†OPENING HYMN: # 276 “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”
CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Lord our God, we still have so much to learn about the saving love you give us in Jesus Christ. When bad news hits, or when conditions turn bleak, or when fear gets the best of us, your unfailing promises are not always our first thought. We worry about outcomes. We question how we will make it through. We wonder from where we’ll find strength and courage. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your presence, and your grace, even when we forget or give into our fears. We still have so much to learn about your saving love in Jesus. Forgive us, grow our faith, and receive now our gratitude for your unending faithfulness. Thou changest not thy compassions they fail not. Hear now our silent prayers of confession.
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION: We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
†PASSING OF THE PEACE
†CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: # 579 “Gloria Patri”
TIME FOR ALL GOD’S CHILDREN
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:
Shine the light of hope through your word today, Lord. Speak in the ways you have prepared us to hear, in our questions, to our hurts, within our restless and distracted spirits. May we hear and believe the word of life you are bringing, through Jesus Christ. Amen.
SCRIPTURE READINGS: Psalm 138; Mark 8: 27-33
One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
MESSAGE: “Who Took My Exoskeleton?” Rev. Ray Thomas
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: (from the PCUSA A Brief Statement of Faith)
We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image, male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God’s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, ad threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God’s condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still.
